Boomers and Bikers at Baby Boomer Life
Boomer’s and Bikers and hell on wheels Harley’s?
Maybe not anymore…..Boomer Biker Christians on Harley’s…yeah…that’s it.
The irony of Boomer’s and Biker’s and Christians is what I was really thinking about.
Recently while spending time with two of my favorite friends, Frank and Linda, who just happen to be bikers-his and hers Harley’s to die for!-we got to talking about their biker friends and his prison ministry and how most bikers today are proactive Christians who are more inclined to do rides for the Make a Wish Foundation or to raise money for the families of inmates or to buy bibles for people doing time and their families.
Right now their mission is that they are trying to find ways to get TBN-Trinity Broadcasting Network- into the prisons as an alternate cable station instead of the one cable station permitted now which tends to be a music station that is rap and videos. Apparently they are only permitted one cable station and the inmates vote and choose. Naturally they choose music if they only get one. However, if there were two and the other was TBN they would watch it a great deal of the time because most of the inmates are starving for spiritual life and desperately want to learn the teachings of the Bible. They want to be saved. They want to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
In some cases they know what they want and need and in some cases they don’t yet know what it is, they just know that it is something and that the hole inside is very large and very empty. They need a reason to care about right and wrong and to think they matter. It is that simple. It is also fixable. Kind of scary though in a country where it is politically incorrect to mix government and God anymore. The need here is too great to ignore and from what my biker friends tell me, they are the ones reaching out to find ways to fill the need. Hallelujah for them. I mean that too. Hallelujah!!
While writing this post I came across a link at TBN Second Chance that made me realize just how important an issue this has become and that of course being the serious ministry that it is TBN has already put a huge effort into the Second Chance programming and what that might mean to the future of the people in the prison system. Faith based programming would reach literally thousands of inmates living in what amounts to the pits of despair and defeat with what seems like a totally hopeless and endless road ahead.
How can this be anything but the most important of important issues when so many lives are affected? Think about the hundreds of thousands of inmates, spouses, children, other family members, corrections officers (and their families too), wardens and other staff that are affected by the plight of the correctional institutions as they currently exist. The repercussions of not having a Second Chance are as dire as can be for a huge number of people and family’s. Only those whose family members are affected everyday can possibly understand that this is a monumentally crucial need.
My biker friends are looking for help and support. Their biker friends are doing all they can to support them in their work. I believe you can make a difference. You may be the one to come up with an idea that finally breaks through on how to effect serious change in the system. It all starts with supporting the TBN effort.
Baby Boomer Life would also like to help by spreading the word and raising consciousness on this subject. What else can we do? Let us know with a comment or two and tell us what you are doing. It matters.
Thank you and good luck. This project is in the hands of the Lord already but many hands make light work so lets join together and heal this problem. Can I get an AMEN?

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about bringing TBN into the prision system. I know that any exposure to the Gospel is better than none, but TBN is laced with false teachings as well as the true Gospel.
Messages from Billy Graham, The Way of the Master, John Hagee, and Frankling Graham would be wonderful. On the other hand, the misguided messages of Joel Osteen, Robert Schuler, Benny Hinn and others do more harm than good and to send their message to those unequipped to discern the truth would be unfortunate.

In response to DrillerAA let me say this; It is obvious that you are an educated observer of TBN and it’s many ministries.
There are levels of belief at work in any group of people. The longer we study The Word, the deeper our level of reception and comprehension. God opens our ability to receive The Word as we demonstrate our commitment. That has been my experience. I have just written a post on the Republican candidates reflecting the very issue of degrees from my perspective as a conservative Republican. Everyone won’t agree with me but it’s okay.
I reserve the right to do that because I believe in the values of my party and my country and I believe in free speech as a God given right. I also have the right to my own opinions about everything from politics to education. That is what makes this country great but it does not necessarily make me uniquely “right” or “wrong”.
We are all entitled to express and to learn within the confines of the Constitution. Correct?
That said, I would much prefer that inmates are possibly debating Biblical truths or God’s laws in the prison system than lusting after mostly naked women and getting violent or having violence reinforced by negative rap lyrics that promote violence toward all.
I understand where you are coming from. I have a great deal of respect for John Hagee and many others who teach the word. Some are definitely better than others.
None the less, I don’t think there is anything Joel Osteen or anyone else on TBN could say that would compare to what they are exposed to on the channel they are getting instead of TBN.
If we put it in front of them God will reach many more than if we do not. I believe we have to trust that power.
I most definitely appreciate your comment and respect your right to express your opinion. I love to hear what others think. By the way, your site http://www.jr-brainfreeze.blogspot.com/ is beautiful and you have the best southern gospel video collection on there. Thank you so much!
