Attitudes of Gratitude at Baby Boomer Life

Quote:
“The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.” - William James

You can listen to the mp3 version of this post here:

Attitudes of Gratitude - mp3

That folks, is where attitudes of gratitude comes into play for all of us boomer’s. Well for everyone really and of course, but I think boomer’s may be especially vulnerable because it is a telling time of life. It is a time of transition and planning for the second half of life. (Yes, I am planning on another fifty years! Aren’t you?)

Have we met our goals? Are our dreams being manifested? Have our children taken the paths we hoped they would? Are we feeling well and energetic? Are we financially free?

Ouch! What, you might ask, do any of those questions have to do with attitudes of gratitude?
Well, in my opinion, the answer is everything. Everything, everything, everything.

This is a time when you must really take the old check up from the neck up. It is so easy to get down on yourself, on life, on the family, your job, your dreams, and your finances. Will that get you where you want to go?

Not if attention animates, not if thoughts are things and you create what you think about whether you like it or not, and not if my state of mind produces a vibration which in turn becomes an energy field which then attracts matching energy fields like a magnet! Do you see where I am going with this?

Right here and right now you need to stop and get yourself together and take control of your thoughts, your feelings, your expectations, and all your auto responses to life. What are you creating? Is gratitude, a smile and a laugh at the jokes life plays at our expense your natural reaction? Or, is it possible that you have slipped into victimizing thoughts, responses , and reactions?

Believe me, I know how easy that is to do. When life trips you up and nothing goes as you planned, and all your hard work seems to have come to naught-take heart! The only one who can turn it around is you, and each of us. We are not beaten unless we say we are.

Recently, I came to the renewed awareness that no matter what I am doing, the Source for all that I receive in this world is the One Source of All That Is. Call it what you may: The GREAT I AM, GOD, ALL THAT IS. What I am saying here is this; if you work really hard on something or with someone and it doesn’t pan out, for heaven’s sake, don’t give up! You may not see the fruits of your labor from that particular thing and you may get disappointed but pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and get right back in the game! You may alter your direction, implement some fine tuning, but keep putting the energy out there as long as you are passionate about it and feeling good about where you are headed. The rewards will come. They may come from somewhere you never expected but they will come. It has to happen. You can’t fail if you don’t quit. An adjustment may be called for but don’t give up.

Think of it like this; you are headed to Montana from Phoenix. The place you want to end up is definitely Montana. If you stop midway or even worse-an hour from the border, and turn around and head east, are you ever going to get to Montana? And why not?
Don’t we do that in life all the time?
Isn’t it time we got it right?

Wake up each day and start yourself off right with an “attitude of gratitude”.

My boomer friends, use your words and the power of putting yourself in alignment with the highest power of the universe to create your new day each and every day. Begin recreating a history today of the kind of thoughts, plans, and beliefs that can only lead to a sense of renewal and joy. Just start!

In a week the old history will feel like just that- “history”. A new pattern will have begun and a new energy will surround you. In a month your life will reveal a pattern of change as you build momentum, energy, and joy that grows in power with each passing day.

Today really is the first day of the rest of your Baby Boomer Life and don’t you forget that. It really is important and we really do become what we think about. That is a law of the universe that is undeniably true. If you have any doubt about the power and truth of these words and thoughts, I invite you to test it. Document it in your own life.

Now this is a Boomer Tip and you may want to share it with someone else in your life whether they are a boomer or not.

Keep an Attitude Journal for a month and write in it every day.
Alter the way you react to the small stuff and the big stuff. Remember not to sweat it! You are in control of your thoughts and reactions, even if you have gotten into some bad habits. Today is the day to take back your power. Everyday is the day to take back your power. It all starts in your mind and in your thoughts.

All of us; writers, doctors, teachers, lawyers, internet marketers, retailers, car salespeople, restaurant managers, entrepreneurs, parents and grandparents, and everyone of us whoever we may be and whatever we may do- we are all vulnerable to the disease of destructive thinking. It is the worst disease there could ever be or has ever been.

Let’s get that negative thinking bull by the horns and throw him down and hog tie him and never let him get control of our lives again.

Boomer Mind Power! We’ve got it!

Well, that got me thinking. I enjoy reflection and sharing of memories. For any boomers who like to reminisce I’m collecting stories and anecdotes about growing up as a baby boomer. I believe it’s most important that boomer memories are collated and made available for sharing with others from all generations and cultures. Boomers have experienced such massive change and witnessed some stunning historical events, but we want the day-to-day stories, too.

Found your site on Mari Smith’s great RV blog and so glad that I did. You have a great site! Although not a babyboomer myself (although I have always felt like one) I am married to one and 2 of my 3 children are the last two years of BB.

I love your site and I especially appreciated this post about attitude. I have “preached” it for years to everyone else and now find myself having to “preach” it to myself. Thanks for the reminder. If I can rise above my AAADD (Aging Associated Attention Deficit Disorder) to keep writing for 30 days in my Attitude Journal; I will be a new woman. Oh look, is that another blog post or tweet……..

I will be following you and telling others about your site.

Ooops! See how “senior moments” get in the way sometimes.
I meant to tell you that I too am a big fan of Jack Humphrey and Sam Clark. Participated with Sam in the Authority Site Center 16 week training. What a guy!
